As a matter of experimentation...

Sometimes as a design student I feel limited by the scope of my professors, but sometimes that feeling can inspire my work outside of the classroom environment(my favorite environment). Up until this point I've only ever offset printed my posters because we never really explored screen printing or otherwise as a medium for exploration in other classes. So the last freelance poster I did I decided to experiment with trying to make it "seem" screen-printed.

A mixed result

As a portfolio piece I may actually consider screen printing this on blue paper.(after resolving some of the typography)

Artist statement(for previous animations)

In artistic pursuit an issue of technique is always present. If unique expression is my goal then technique is how I effectively go about expressing my ideas. Maintaining a healthy balance between experimentation and research into the techniques of others seemed to be the main area of focus during project two, for this project was more an exploration into formal animation technique than anything else. The first animation I created (walk-cycle) was done rather experimentally with no real knowledge of what I was doing and while I felt that the animation came out relatively ok, I wanted a greater technical command of what was going on. The introduction of Rich Williams writings on animations really opened my eyes up to a whole world that I previously didn't know existed. For the final animation I did I really wanted to focus on believable movement to the point where the viewer forgets that its a hand done animation and starts to concern themselves with what is actually going on in the animation or how it may make them feel, much the same way we do when we watch cartoons. Using techniques like key frames and in-betweens I was able to create the believable movement I had sought after. Up until this point I had never intentionally pursued animation as a creative endeavor but the things I've learned from this project will change that.
